概述Telecontrol substation using the example of an RTU based on the SIMATIC S7-400 Advanced Controller
High-performance RTUs for extensive control tasksModular remote terminal units based on SIMATIC S7-400 are particularly suitable for complex process plants. TIM communications modules (Telecontrol Interface Modules) are used for the connection to the control center. As independent modules – connected to the SIMATIC CPU via the Industrial Ethernet interface – they enable the reliable transmission of control and process data.
The following TIM modules are available for the S7-400:
TIM 4R-IE supports the telecontrol protocol SINAUT ST7
TIM 4R-IE DNP3 supports the telecontrol protocol DNP3 (IEEE 1815)
TIM 1531 IRC for the telecontrol protocols SINAUT ST7, IEC 60870-5-104/101 and DNP3
The TIM modules mentioned can also be used to implement a modular remote terminal unit based on SIMATIC S7-300.
TIM modules TIM 3V-IE, TIM 3V-IE DNP3 and TIM 3V-IE Advanced are also available for the SIMATIC S7-300. These as well as the TIM 4 modules (S7-300 module format) can be used directly in an S7-300 station and are directly connected to the S7-300 CPU via the backplane bus.

Connection to all types of Telecontrol control centers with IEC 60870-5-104/101, DNP3 or SINAUT ST7.
Secure communication
Secured data traffic between the Telecontrol control center and the process stations in the field (RTUs) using encryption algorithms.
High availability
Path redundancy offers high availability even when the primary connection fails. Through support of the S7-400H CPUs, redundant substations can also be realized and connected to the Telecontrol control center.
Simple configuration
Standard engineering with TIA Portal STEP 7 enables easy and fast programming, networking and commissioning.
The figure below shows a simple S7-300 station equipped with a TIM 3V-IE. The S7-300 can be connected via the RS232 interface of the TIM to a conventional WAN (e.g. dedicated line or dial-up network), via the RJ45 interface to an IP-based network, e.g. LTE mobile network.

In the case of an S7-400, both a TIM 4 and a TIM 1531-IRC can be used for data communication. In both cases, the TIM is used as a stand-alone device.

In the case of the TIM 4R, two conventional WANs can be connected by means of the two combined RS232/RS485 interfaces. TIM 4R-IE has an additional connection for an IP-based network.
