PC无毒无味无定型性，在工程塑料中PC的透明性仅次于亚克力，尤其是在抗冲击性上，聚碳酸酯表现出极其优越的物理性能，抗蠕变、吸水低及尺寸安定，在同等工程塑料中，PC在高低温下仍然能够保持良好的综合性能，即便是在宽广的温度变化内，PC塑料的力学性能、尺寸变化、电性能及防火特点基本保持稳定状态，在－60～ 120℃中等负荷环境下能够长期工作，无显著的熔点，熔融状态下的温度达到220～230℃，且用PC原料制作的薄膜透气性小，燃烧后能够自熄处理，耐候性佳，但是抗UV能力较差，不耐强碱但耐油耐酸，并且若长期在水中使用，会产生水解的现象以致于开裂，抗疲劳性相对较差，另外聚碳酸酯的耐磨性需要进一步研究改善。有些PC原料结合了硅氧烷的性能，从而得到一个重大的升级，其出色的抗冲击性能，赋予这些材料的完美的低温延性。在急剧的温度变化范围内，这些材料保持其优异性能不变，且经过特殊改性处理的PC料，具有抗UV抗微生物的突出性能，使用过程中可直接与食品接触。
